A Global Gathering, A National Moment

With CEOs from top semiconductor firms, tech entrepreneurs, and students from every corner of India in attendance, the Prime Minister’s address was more than ceremonial—it was strategic, symbolic, and deeply personal. Having just returned from Japan and China, PM Modi shared his visit to Tokyo Electron’s factory alongside Japanese PM Shigeru Ishiba, noting that the company’s CEO was seated in the audience.

“My passion for technology is no secret,” he smiled. “And today, I stand among those who will shape the digital destiny of the world.”

India’s Innovation + Global Trust = Semiconductor Powerhouse

With representation from over 50 countries, the event was a testament to India’s rising credibility in the global tech arena. PM Modi declared:

“The world trusts India. The world believes in India. And the world is ready to build the semiconductor future with India.”

He welcomed international partners as co-architects of a self-reliant, developed India, where chips are not just manufactured—but designed, made, and trusted on Indian soil.

Growth That Defies Gravity

Referencing India’s 7.8% GDP growth in Q1, PM Modi emphasised that while global economies are grappling with uncertainty, India is surging ahead across sectors—from manufacturing and services to agriculture and construction.

“This momentum isn’t just economic—it’s emotional. It’s energising every citizen, every industry, every innovation.”

And that energy, he said, is what will catapult India into the top three economies of the world.

The Chip That Changed the World

In a poetic pivot, PM Modi drew a powerful analogy:“The 20th century was shaped by oil wells. The 21st will be shaped by chip fabs.”

He spotlighted the $600 billion global semiconductor market, predicting it will soon cross $1 trillion—and India, he said, is racing toward a commanding share of that future. But there was also a call to action: “The lesser the paperwork, the sooner the wafer work can begin.”

Designed in India. Made in India. Trusted by the World

With conviction and clarity, PM Modi laid out a vision where India isn’t just a participant in the semiconductor race—it’s a pacesetter. “The day is not far when the world will say: Designed in India, Made in India, Trusted by the World.”

Semicon India – 2025 wasn’t just an event. It was a declaration of intent, a blueprint for transformation, and a celebration of India’s digital destiny—etched not in stone, but in silicon.

From File to Fab: PM Modi Declares India’s Chip Revolution Is Unstoppable

“Our journey began late… but nothing can stop us now”

In a speech that pulsed with urgency and optimism, Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid out India’s breathtaking sprint into the semiconductor future. Addressing a packed hall at Semicon India – 2025, he didn’t just talk numbers—he painted a vision of India as a full-stack semiconductor powerhouse, ready to shape the digital destiny of the world.

A Timeline of Transformation

PM Modi began by spotlighting the pace of progress:

• 2021: Semicon India programme launched

• 2024: Multiple new projects greenlit

• 2025: Five more cleared, bringing the total to ten active semiconductor projects

With $18 billion (₹1.5 lakh crore) already committed, he declared:

Speed Is the New Strategy

In the chip world, time is currency. And PM Modi made it clear:

To cut red tape and accelerate execution, the National Single Window System now offers seamless approvals from both the Central and State Governments. Investors, he said, are finally free from the paperwork jungle.

Plug-and-Play Parks, End-to-End Capability

India’s new semiconductor parks are being built with a plug-and-play model—ready-to-roll infrastructure with land, power, ports, airports, and skilled talent baked in. Add to that the PLI incentives and Design Linked Grants, and you get a recipe for unstoppable industrial growth.

EEPC: The Bridge Between Bharat and the World

In a world where innovation economies dominate, India must shift from being a catch-up player to a trendsetter, she said.
New Delhi, September 4, 2025 — Beneath the regal domes of Rashtrapati Bhavan, a moment of quiet power unfolded today as Prime Minister of Singapore, H.E. Mr. Lawrence Wong, called on President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu—a meeting that wasn’t just ceremonial, but symbolic of a partnership that’s matured, deepened, and now poised to leap into the future.

Sixty years of diplomatic relations—a milestone few nations celebrate with such vibrancy. And this year, India and Singapore are doing just that, not with nostalgia, but with vision and velocity.

A Partnership Reimagined

Welcoming Prime Minister Wong with warmth and gravitas, President Murmu hailed Singapore as a cornerstone of India’s Act East Policy and a strategic ally in the Indo-Pacific narrative. She recalled the flurry of high-level engagements this year—from President Tharman’s visit in January to the India-Singapore Ministerial Roundtable, where six senior ministers, including Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan, joined hands to shape the next chapter of cooperation. And today, that chapter got its headline:

From Green Energy to Outer Space

The new agreements signed today aren’t just ink on paper—they’re blueprints for transformation. From green economy initiatives to space collaboration, civil aviation upgrades to fintech innovation, and skill development programs that empower youth across borders—India and Singapore are aligning their strengths in sectors that define the future.
President Murmu emphasised that this isn’t just about trade—it’s about shared purpose.

Defence, Diaspora, and Deeper Bonds

The conversation also touched on defence cooperation, with joint exercises and training programs reinforcing mutual trust. And then there’s the Indian diaspora in Singapore—a vibrant bridge of culture, commerce, and community. President Murmu praised their role in nurturing people-to-people ties that go beyond policy and politics.

Dialogue at the Top: A Diplomatic Signature

Both leaders agreed: frequent, high-level exchanges are the lifeblood of this relationship. With today’s meeting, they reaffirmed their commitment to keeping the dialogue dynamic, the cooperation comprehensive, and the friendship future-ready.

This wasn’t just a diplomatic courtesy—it was a strategic handshake across oceans, echoing with the promise of innovation, inclusion, and Indo-Pacific leadership.

Chennai, Sept 2, 2025 — The stately halls of Chennai pulsed with pride and purpose today as City Union Bank marked its 120th foundation day—a milestone few institutions live to see. But this wasn’t just a ceremonial affair. It was a moment of reckoning, reflection, and roaring optimism, graced by none other than the President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu who delivered a stirring address that turned heads and stirred hearts.

“India’s economy is sprinting ahead, and our banks are the wind beneath its wings,” the President declared, setting the tone for an afternoon that celebrated not just longevity, but legacy.

Banking Beyond Boundaries

Gone are the days when banks were mere vaults of currency. Today, they’re engines of empowerment, catalysts of change, and gateways to dreams. President Murmu spotlighted how institutions like City Union Bank have evolved into multi-dimensional service hubs, offering everything from micro-loans to mobile apps, insurance to investment tools—all tailored to meet the rising aspirations of a billion-plus citizens.

Financial Inclusion: The Heartbeat of Progress

In a country where millions still reside in rural and semi-urban pockets, financial inclusion isn’t a buzzword—it’s a lifeline. The President lauded City Union Bank’s strides in bringing banking to the doorstep of the underserved, saying,

She emphasised that payment banks, digital wallets, and fintech innovations are rewriting the rules of engagement, making banking not only accessible but also intuitive. Yet, she didn’t shy away from the challenges—digital literacy, internet penetration, and financial awareness remain hurdles that demand collective resolve.

Farmers, MSMEs, and the Forgotten Workforce

With a firm voice and compassionate tone, President Murmu called on the banking sector to prioritise the rural economy, urging banks to extend timely credit, agri-tech support, and financial education to farmers. She envisioned a future where MSMEs become growth dynamos, and where daily wage earners and migrant labourers are seamlessly woven into the financial fabric of the nation.

Banking the Future: From Startups to Smart Cities

As India marches toward a digital-first, knowledge-driven economy, the President underscored the transformative role of banks in powering innovation. Whether it’s funding startups, fueling smart city infrastructure, or backing entrepreneurs, banks are no longer just financial institutions—they’re nation builders.

A Celebration of Vision and Values

City Union Bank’s 120th anniversary wasn’t just a tribute to its past—it was a clarion call for the future. With President Murmu’s powerful endorsement, the event became a rallying cry for inclusive growth, digital transformation, and economic justice.

As the applause echoed through the venue, one thing was clear: India’s banking story is far from over—and it’s being written in bold, visionary strokes.

The owners will not require any additional documents, and the existing FASTag account will serve the purpose.

The government has also dropped a lifetime FASTag idea that earlier provisioned Rs 30,000 for 15 years.

Those who don't find it worth investing annually would have an option to choose a flat rate of Rs 50 per 100 km, replacing the current toll plaza system.

Barrier-free toll collection

One of the important aspects of the proposed toll policy is the elimination of toll plazas on the highways and expressways. The toll policy mulls implementing sensor-based toll collection.

How will contractors be compensated?

The one-time payment for unlimited travel is likely to affect the contractors of the existing projects, and hence, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) will compensate them based on the digital record and a government-approved formula.

The new toll policy will also give additional powers to the banks to address toll evasion. They may invoke provisions like minimum balance and others.

Mumbai, May 06, 2025: India’s aviation landscape is set for a transformation with new airports like Jewar, Navi Mumbai, and Bhogapuram enhancing regional connectivity, boosting tourism, and easing air traffic. These upcoming infrastructure projects will drive economic development, create jobs, and fuel real estate growth across the country by 2025 and beyond, a report by Godrej Properties said.

Jewar Airport, Noida

Navi Mumbai International Airport, Maharashtra

Purandar Airport, Pune

Bhogapuram International Airport, Andhra Pradesh

Dhalbhumgarh Airport, Jamshedpur

Parandur Greenfield Airport, Chennai

Kalyani Airport, Kolkata

How will the new airports in India impact regional development?

When will the Navi Mumbai International Airport be operational?

India is on the cusp of a major aviation transformation with numerous airport projects aimed at improving connectivity and boosting regional development. The introduction of new airports in India underpins the government’s efforts to support air travel demand, promote trade, and stimulate tourism. These projects will also lead to job creation and infrastructure growth in surrounding areas. Let’s explore some of the significant upcoming airports in India that are set to redefine the nation’s travel dynamics.

Jewar Airport, Noida

Jewar Airport in Uttar Pradesh is envisioned to become India’s largest airport. The first phase, costing ₹29,650 crores, is set to be operational soon. With six runways planned, this airport will ease the passenger load on Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport, ensuring smoother operations for both domestic and international flights.

Navi Mumbai International Airport, Maharashtra

Located in Panvel, this massive project aims to handle 90 million passengers annually. Scheduled for completion in 2025, the airport will decongest Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport. Its strategic location will significantly enhance connectivity across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.

Purandar Airport, Pune

Officially known as Chhatrapati Sambhaji Raje International Airport, Purandar Airport will address capacity issues at Pune’s existing Lohegaon Airport. Located 40 km from Pune, this new airport in India will function as a passenger and cargo hub. The ₹6,000-crore project is expected to be operational by 2027-28.

Bhogapuram International Airport, Andhra Pradesh

This Greenfield airport near Visakhapatnam will cater to both domestic and international travellers. Apart from passenger services, it will boost cargo operations, stimulating economic growth in North Andhra Pradesh.
Dhalbhumgarh Airport, Jamshedpur

A revival project of a World War II airfield, Dhalbhumgarh Airport will serve Jharkhand's industrial city, Jamshedpur. With a projected cost of ₹300 crores, this domestic airport is expected to spur regional connectivity and development.

Parandur Greenfield Airport, Chennai

To complement Chennai’s existing airport, the Parandur Greenfield Airport will begin its first phase in 2028. Featuring a single runway initially, the airport will later expand to accommodate increased traffic and cargo demands.

Kalyani Airport, Kolkata

Located 45 km from Kolkata, this airport will alleviate the load on the Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport. With a capacity to handle 8.5 million passengers annually, this project is expected to be operational by 2030.

The final word

The introduction of new airports in India will not only address growing air travel demands but also pave the way for economic growth. These upcoming airports in India will boost regional connectivity, attract investments, and enhance real estate development in surrounding areas. They mark a significant step toward a more connected and prosperous India.

Mumbai, May 5, 2025: Before finalising a flat, use this detailed home inspection checklist to evaluate safety, functionality, and long-term value. Know what to check before buying a flat to make a confident purchase decision.

A new flat isn’t just a purchase. It’s a commitment to comfort, security, and peace of mind. Yet, beneath a fresh coat of paint, there could be signs of poor construction or future trouble. A careful home inspection can save you from unpleasant surprises. Use this practical guide to ensure your flat is worth every rupee, a Godrej Properties report said.

Structure Stability Must Come First

Begin by inspecting the walls and ceilings for cracks or water stains. Tap the walls gently; a hollow sound might signal poor plasterwork. A solid structure ensures safety and reduces future repair costs.

Check for Dampness and Leakage

Moist patches on walls or ceilings may seem minor but often lead to mould and costly repairs. Look under sinks and around windows. Use your nose too. A musty smell may indicate hidden moisture.

Inspect Electrical Fittings Thoroughly

Switches, sockets and fuse boxes must function properly. Plug a phone charger into random points. Exposed wiring or flickering lights are red flags. A faulty system can risk both life and electronics.

Confirm Plumbing and Water Flow

Turn on taps to check water pressure. Flush toilets and look for leak marks near pipes. Observe drainage speed in sinks. These simple checks can help avoid later plumbing chaos.

Evaluate Ventilation and Natural Light

A good flat breathes. Open all the windows. Ensure cross-ventilation is possible. Look for direct sunlight in rooms, especially bedrooms. Natural light can cut power bills and enhance well-being.

Verify Lift and Common Area Conditions

Check the lift for smooth movement, valid inspection certificates, and cleanliness. Common areas like stairwells or corridors reflect the overall building maintenance quality.

Investigate the Flooring Quality

Walk barefoot. Loose tiles, cracks or uneven levels may indicate poor workmanship. Avoiding these issues now means fewer headaches later.

Review Doors, Windows and Locks

Open and close every door and window. Latch them to ensure alignment. Worn-out hinges or rusted locks need replacing and may point to neglect.

Understand the Flat’s Orientation

This often overlooked part of a home inspection checklist influences light, heat and even energy bills. East or north-facing flats usually receive more natural light and are cooler in summer.

Examine Legal and Builder Documents

Though not physical, this is still an essential part of what to check before buying a flat. Confirm RERA registration, occupancy certificate, and approved building plans. Ensure the builder has no legal disputes over the property.

The Final Word

Every flat may appear promising at first glance. But a mindful home inspection helps you look beyond aesthetics and assess its true worth. Refer to this home inspection checklist as a trusted companion when exploring flats. It doesn’t just protect your money but also safeguards your future comfort.

New Delhi, May 30, 2025: Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare Jagat Prakash Nadda held a series of high-level meetings with health ministers of six states and union territories to assess progress made on TB and measles-rubella elimination and review utilisation of funds under the PM-ABHIM (Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission) and 15th Finance Commission.

State health ministers who joined the meeting included Rajendra Shukla, Deputy Chief Minister, Madhya Pradesh; Uttarakhand Health Minister Dhan Singh Rawat, Gujarat Health Minister Rushikesh Patel, Smt. Sakeena Masood Itoo, Health Minister, Jammu & Kashmir; Dr Mazel Ampareen Lyngdoh, Health Minister, Meghalaya; and Smt. Chandrima Bhattacharya, Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, West Bengal.

The Union Minister praised the states for their active involvement in the 100-day Intensified TB-Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan, during which 12.97 crore individuals were screened for tuberculosis. As a result, over 7.19 lakh TB cases were reported across the country, including 2.85 lakh asymptomatic patients. The campaign has now been expanded to cover all districts nationwide. The Minister also highlighted key performance indicators such as the examination of presumptive TB cases, NAAT coverage, treatment success rates and the implementation of nutrition support schemes for TB patients. He urged state health ministers to regularly monitor and review these critical metrics.

Under the TB-Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, states are actively screening vulnerable populations for tuberculosis, regardless of whether they show symptoms, utilising portable chest X-ray machines. Individuals with TB-suggestive findings are further tested using the Nucleic Acid Amplification Test (NAAT). The Union Health Minister emphasised the need for greater Jan Bhagidari (public participation) to drive meaningful and lasting progress in the fight against TB. He urged states and Union Territories to ensure the active involvement of elected representatives from Panchayati Raj Institutions, Municipal Corporations, and other local bodies in the implementation of the campaign.

Nadda stressed the pressing need to lower both the incidence and mortality rates of TB by ensuring early and comprehensive screening. He stated that the national goal is to bring down the TB incidence rate to 47 cases per lakh population and the mortality rate to below 3 per lakh population.

To meet the set targets, the Union Minister urged states to revisit and refine their TB elimination strategies with a stronger emphasis on reaching vulnerable and high-risk populations. He highlighted the need to expand access to rapid diagnostic tools, especially Nucleic Acid Amplification Testing (NAAT). He urged states to aggressively screen and test the weak and vulnerable population, including migrant workers, slum dwellers, HIV patients, alcoholics and chain smokers, etc.

States were also encouraged to boost participation in key nutritional support programs for TB patients and their families, including the Nikshay Poshan Yojana and the Nikshay Mitra initiative. The Union Minister pointed out that engagement and benefits under these schemes remain inadequate in several areas and must be substantially enhanced to provide comprehensive care and support for those affected by TB.

Shri Nadda applauded the states for their ongoing efforts toward the complete elimination of measles and rubella. However, he noted that several districts across various states are yet to be declared measles-rubella free. To address this, he emphasised the need to strengthen immunisation efforts, especially to focus on the missed-out population who have not taken the second vaccine, to fully achieve the elimination target.

He also stressed the urgency of implementing health infrastructure projects under the PM-ABHIM and 15th Finance Commission on a war footing, highlighting that only one year remains for the effective utilisation of the allocated funds. “Implementation of Health Infrastructure Projects under PM-ABHIM and 15th Finance Commission must be fast-tracked to ensure optimal fund utilisation”, he said.

The Union Health Minister also stressed on speeding up the resolution of issues such as clearance of land for health infrastructure, MoU signing with NCDC (National Centre for Disease Control) and establishment of NCDC state branches sanctioned under PM-ABHIM in Kolkata, Meghalaya, Bhopal and a BSL3 Laboratory in Surat, Gujarat.

States provided updates on their progress and accomplishments across the key programmes discussed during the meeting and also shared their best practices that could be replicated elsewhere.

Smt. Punya Salila Srivastava, Union Health Secretary and senior officials of the Union Health Ministry were present at the meeting.

Under this initiative, since 2023, Rashtrapati Bhavan, Rashtrapati Nilayam, Hyderabad, and Rashtrapati Niwas, Mashobra, were opened up for public visits six days a week. From February 2025, the Change of Guard Ceremony started at the Forecourt of Rashtrapati Bhavan in a new format with increased seating capacity.

The President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu will visit the Rashtrapati Niketan on June 20, 2025, to oversee the preparation of the opening of the Estate for the public. She will also lay the foundation stone for Rashtrapati Udyan, a 132-acre ecological park, on the occasion.

The Rashtrapati Niketan, earlier known as Rashtrapati Ashiana, was used by the President’s Bodyguards for the training of PBG horses. This heritage building now showcases a curated selection of artwork and offers a glimpse into its rich legacy. Visitors will have the opportunity to view the stables and horses of the President’s Bodyguard. The Lily Pond, Rockery Pond, Rose Garden, and Pergola will also be points of attraction for the visitors.

The Tapovan offers a serene escape into nature with a rich canopy of native trees, winding trails, wooden bridges, elevated machans for bird watching, and quiet spots for reflection and meditation. It has been developed with the aim of connecting visitors with the natural world through guided trails, seasonal flora, and eco-interpretive elements.
The Rashtrapati Udyan, which is scheduled to be open to the public next year, is planned to be developed as a dynamic environmental and recreational space, featuring thematic gardens, a butterfly garden, a scenic lake, an aviary, and a dedicated children's play area.

The park plan also includes a sports zone, walking tracks, jogging and cycling tracks, water conservation systems, and outdoor learning installations — creating a living classroom that encourages environmental awareness, active lifestyles, and family-friendly engagement in harmony with nature.

New Delhi, May 25, 2025: The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) will convene the 38th Meeting of the Central Apprenticeship Council (CAC) on 26th May 2025 at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi.

The Council, reconstituted in October 2024 under the chairmanship of Minister of State (Independent Charge), MSDE, Jayant Chaudhary, plays a pivotal role in advising the Government on key policies related to apprenticeship training across the country.

The last CAC meeting was held in June 2021. Since then, India’s apprenticeship landscape has evolved considerably, with over 43.47 lakh apprentices engaged across 36 states and union territories, with active participation from more than 51,000 establishments, enhanced outreach across districts and social groups, and renewed alignment with futuristic sectors through the PM-NAPS and NATS schemes.

The 38th CAC will deliberate on critical reforms, including:

Digital and virtual mode apprenticeship delivery

Integration of Degree Apprenticeships through rule amendments, including the introduction of new definitions to formally regulate Apprenticeship Embedded Degree Programmes (AEDP)

Provisions for the global deployment of apprentices at client sites

Enhanced stipend rates linked to inflation

Measures to support women, PwDs, and apprentices from NER

Institutional strengthening, includingthe setting up of new regional boards

The Council comprises representatives from central ministries, state governments, industry (public and private), academia, labour bodies, and technical experts. Notable members include chairpersons of BHEL, Indian Oil, Tata Group, Maruti Suzuki, Reliance Industries, NSDC, UGC, AICTE, and senior bureaucrats from ministries such as education, labour, MSME, railways, and textiles.

State apprenticeship advisors from ten key states and domain experts with experience in education, labour, and industry also serve on the council.

Ahead of the meeting, Jayant Chaudhary, Chairman of CAC and Minister of State (I/C), MSDE, stated: “The future of apprenticeships lies at the intersection of education, technology, and opportunity. As we prepare India’s youth for a dynamic and inclusive economy, this Council meeting will catalyze to unlock greater flexibility, global linkages, and institutional coherence in our apprenticeship framework. It is an important step in our journey toward a ‘Kushal Bharat, Viksit Bharat’.”

The meeting will begin at 10:30 AM at Vigyan Bhawan, with a keynote address by the minister, followed by discussions on proposed reforms and policy enhancements. Outcomes from the Council are expected to significantly shape India’s skilling priorities in the years ahead.

Earlier this week, MSDE launched a strategic Apprenticeship Scheme Pilot for the North Eastern Region (NER) in Aizawl, Mizoram, in the presence of Jayant Chaudhary and Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma. The initiative aims to boost apprenticeship adoption across all eight NER states by providing an additional ₹1,500/month stipend to over 26,000 youths, above the standard NAPS benefit. Backed by a dedicated outlay of ₹43.94 crore, including funds for awareness and capacity building, the scheme is being implemented by the Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship (IIE), Guwahati and National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC). It marks a significant step toward mainstreaming skilling opportunities in underserved geographies, promoting mobility, inclusion, and industry-readiness among youth in the region.

New Delhi, May 25, 2025: The Rising North East Investors Summit 2025, held during May 23-24, concluded on Saturday (May 24) with significant investment announcements made on the first day. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the summit on May 23.

In his valedictory address, the Union Minister of Communications and Minister for Development of North Eastern Region (MDoNER) Jyotiraditya M. Scindia said that the Northeast has emerged as a hub of global partnership and mutual interest.
He said the Rising North East Investors Summit 2025 drew an unprecedented Rs 4.3 lakh crore in investment interest, setting the stage for the Northeast Region (NER) to become India’s next economic powerhouse. “We welcomed delegations from over 80 countries — from Japan to Europe to ASEAN nations, and there was one unanimous sentiment: India’s future lies in the Northeast,” he said.

Scindia praised the PM for not just recognising the vast potential of the north-eastern region but also embracing it. He said, “None of this would have been possible without the commitment of the government under the PM and his deep, heartfelt connection to this region. For six decades after Independence, successive governments failed to recognise the vast potential of this land, a land that once contributed nearly 20% to India's GDP. But Narendra Modi not only understood this potential, he embraced I,t adopting a ‘whole-of-government’ approach.”

He said the ministry has created eight high-level task forces across key sectors: agriculture, sports, investment promotion, tourism, economic corridors, infrastructure, textiles and handicrafts, and animal husbandry, allowing each state to chart its own roadmap.

MDoNER has been holding discussions with various stakeholders, including investors and foreign diplomats, to encourage them to explore investment opportunities in the northeastern states. In the last year, the ministry has led an extensive nationwide and international engagement effort in this direction. These key initiatives include nine domestic road shows across major Indian cities, Ambassadors’ Meets with representatives from over 95 countries, six state roundtables, six sector-specific industry interactions, and numerous consultations with PSUs, industry chambers, and corporates.

Scindia said, “These discussions have borne real fruit and investment proposals of Rs.4.30 lakh crore.” Commenting on the Rising North East Summit 2025, the minister said that this is the first time since the inception of MDoNER that an investment summit has been organised on this scale. On Friday, industry leaders, including Mukesh Ambani, Chairman of Reliance Industries, Gautam Adani, Chairperson of Adani Group, and Anil Agarwal, Chairman of Vedanta, collectively announced investments worth more than Rs 1,55,000 crore to explore opportunities in the North Eastern region during the event's inauguration ceremony.

Besides Scindia, MoS Sukanta Majumdar, MoS External Affairs Pabitra Margherita, Tripura Industries and Commerce Minister Santana Chakma remained present.

MDoNER Secretary Chanchal Kumar, MDoNER joint secretary Angshuman Dey, DoNER Statistical Advisor Dharmvir Jha and other officers were present.

On Friday, Mukesh Ambani pledged Rs 75,000 crore over the next five years, targeting agriculture, telecommunications, digital services, and local enterprise development. Adani Group chairperson Gautam Adani also announced an additional Rs 50,000 crore investment over the next decade, and Vedanta Group chairman Anil Agarwal announced more than Rs 30,000 crore investments in the northeast.

MoS External Affairs Pabitra Margherita said, “It fills me with immense pride and joy to witness the remarkable transformation of the northeast region under the visionary leadership of the PM.”

Talking about the fortnightly visits mandated for the central ministers to each north-eastern state, the minister said that so far, more than 700 such visits have taken place, reflecting our governance model that is more active, outcome-oriented, and truly people-centric.

Sukanta Majumdar expressed gratitude for making the North East summit a resounding success. He said, “Over the past two days, Bharat Mandapam has transformed into a national stage, amplifying the voice, vision, and vast potential of the north-eastern region.”

“From Guwahati to Mumbai, Hyderabad to Kolkata, nine investor road shows, two Ambassador meets, and engagement with over 131 investors and 24 industry members have sparked the momentum that is redefining the development narrative of the northeast,” he added.

Briefing about the progress seen by the North eastern region in recent years, the minister said, “National highways in this region have grown from 10,905-km in 2014 to 16,207-km by 2024. A total of 694.5 megawatts of power generation capacity and over 10,000-km of circuit of transmission and distribution lines have been added. Thirty-six major aviation projects have been completed, and airports have doubled from 9 to 17 between 2014 and 2024.”

Chanchal Kumar, Secretary, MDoNER, said that the Northeast states are not just known for their natural beauty but also have immense potential in the fields of natural resources, tourism, sports, and music. “Looking at all these factors, it can be said that the future belongs to the Northeast states. We have conducted road shows, Ambassador round tables, and state round tables in different cities across eight states to promote the investment ecosystem in NER,” said Kumar. He further added that the Ambassadors' Meet, organised last month, saw participation from representatives from about 76 countries, and the ministry has received investment proposals worth over Rs 4 lakh crore.

Dharmvir Jha thanked investors for showing investment interest in the NER and said, “Today, we're at the culmination of our hard work in the form of the Rising North East Summit.” The Statistical Advisor, MDoNER, said that investment proposals worth Rs 4.30 lakh crore have been received so far.

The trailblazing investment summit, organised by the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region, hosted ministerial sessions, Business-to-Government sessions, Business-to-Business meetings, startups, and exhibitions of policy and related initiatives taken by state governments and central ministries for investment promotion. The summit is the culmination of various pre-summit activities, such as a series of road shows and states' roundtables, including the Ambassador's Meet and the Bilateral Chambers Meet, organised by the central government with active support from the state governments of the North Eastern Region.

In the inaugural ceremony of the summit held on Friday, the Prime Minister highlighted that over the past decade, Rs 21,000 crore has been invested in the Northeast's education sector. He noted key developments, including the establishment of over 800 new schools, the region's first AIIMS, nine new medical colleges, and two new IIITs. The Prime Minister assured that the Northeast now offers top-tier talent across various sectors, encouraging industries and investors to leverage the region's immense potential.

“We will continue B2G and B2B dialogues, where MDoNER will act as a bridge between investors and state governments, to ensure that each approved project translates swiftly into reality. Standing here today, I reaffirm our promise: every MoU, every proposal discussed here will be pursued relentlessly. The Northeast Region, our NER, now embarks on a journey of New Economic Revolution, a New Economic Revival — where it will emerge as India’s International Gateway to Southeast Asia,” said the Union Minister of DoNER, Shri Jyotiraditya Scindia, in his concluding remarks on Saturday.

As a part of these preparations, Shivraj Singh Chouhan addressed agricultural scientists from across the country at the NASC Complex, New Delhi.

In his address, Chouhan stated, that his life is dedicated to serving farmers, boosting agricultural production, reducing production costs, ensuring food security, filling the nation's food basket, and safeguarding the agricultural interests of future generations. He emphasized that balanced use of fertilizers, understanding local conditions, utilizing accurate research insights, and access to quality seeds can undoubtedly help farmers enhance their productivity.

Stressing the importance of collaboration, the minister highlighted that this campaign is a significant step towards connecting scientists, department officials, and farmers an integration that has long been missing. He further accentuated that, “Farming is a matter of heart and emotion and it must be lived.”

He affirmed the government’s commitment towards advancing agricultural research under the leadership of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and assured that there will be no shortage of funds for research and innovation. Describing the Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan as a result-oriented initiative, he expressed confidence that its outcomes increased yields and reduced costs would be visible as early as the upcoming Kharif season.

The minister also urged the country’s scientists to showcase their research capabilities on the global stage, asserting that India’s agricultural institutions possess the strength and excellence that can earn global recognition. He lauded the dedication of agricultural scientists and stated that the nation would express its gratitude to them following the successful completion of this campaign.

He further explained that agricultural research has its own language, and the challenge lies in translating it into practical, scientific terms that can be effectively communicated to the end-users.

This programme, he said, offers a platform to achieve that goal through collective and coordinated efforts by all stakeholders.

Mumbai, 21 May 2025: Credit rating agency ICRA expects India's textile export volumes to the UK to double in the next five to six years post implementation of the revised tariffs, leading to an addition of incremental capacities in four to five years.
While the United Kingdom’s share in apparel and home textile exports by India had remained stable at about 8% over the past five years amidst flattish growth, the same is expected to reach about 12% by 2027, reflecting a 11% compounded annual growth rate (CAGR) between 2024 and 2027.

“India and the UK recently concluded trade talks, and a free trade agreement (FTA) was reached on May 6, 2025, after three years of negotiation. While the broad terms have been agreed upon, the FTA is expected to be operational in 2026, subject to legal review,” leading textile news portal www.fibre2fashion.com said in a report.

Currently, the UK levies an 8-12% duty on apparel and home textiles imported from India. In the FTA, tariffs have been eliminated on 99% of Indian goods, including textiles.

The conclusion of the FTA is expected to encourage capital investments in the apparel and home textile sector, apart from generating employment opportunities and better earnings for the exporters with a changing product mix, ICRA noted.
In 2024, China was the biggest apparel and home textiles exporter to the United Kingdom, with nearly 25 per cent share, followed by Bangladesh (22 per cent), Turkey (8 per cent) and Pakistan (6.8 per cent).

Once the FTA gets implemented, with zero-duty access on apparel and home textiles exported, India would have a level playing field compared to the existing duty-free access nation status like Bangladesh, Vietnam and Pakistan, ICRA said in a research report.

In 2024 and the first two months of 2025, India’s apparel and home textiles exports to the United Kingdom witnessed 6 per cent and 7 per cent year-on-year (YoY) growth, respectively.

To meet the additional demand, the Indian textile industry is also expected to invest in incremental capacities in the garmenting segment. On the other part of the value chain, namely spinning, fabric processing, etc., the spend is likely to be relatively lower given the inherent over-capacity situation in the country, ICRA noted.

Indian apparel exporters’ competitive positioning would strengthen considerably with the elimination of import duties by the United Kingdom. Exports from existing manufacturing hubs like Tiruppur, Surat, Delhi National Capital Region are likely to improve.

The UK retail giants are likely to expand their sourcing from India for cost-effective production and diverse product offerings facilitated through the FTA. This shift will benefit Indian suppliers, boosting their revenues and enhancing their reputation in the global apparel industry, ICRA added.

ICRA is short for Investment Information and Credit Rating Agency of India Limited, a publicly traded company in India that provides investment information and credit ratings. ICRA was founded in 1991 by leading financial institutions and is a professional credit rating agency. They assess the creditworthiness of companies and financial instruments, providing ratings to help investors make informed decisions. ICRA's ratings are used by various market participants to assess the risk associated with investments.

New Delhi, May 20, 2025: The Apparel Export Promotion Council (AEPC) has entered into an agreement with the Green Business Certification Institute (GBCI) to promote sustainable manufacturing practices within the Indian garment industry.
The collaboration is aimed at increasing the number of garment factories in India that achieve LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification. LEED is an internationally recognised rating system that evaluates a building’s environmental performance, focusing on energy efficiency, resource conservation, and the promotion of healthier indoor environments.

“The Memorandum of Understanding was signed by AEPC Secretary General Mithileshwar Thakur and Gopalakrishnan P, Managing Director of GBCI for the Asia Pacific and Middle East regions,” www.indiantextilejournal.com reported quoting a report published in the Business Standard.

Sudhir Sekhri, Chairman of AEPC, reiterated the garment sector’s commitment to sustainability. He highlighted that LEED certification signifies reduced resource consumption, a lower carbon footprint, and better air quality within factories. He further noted that such certification also brings down operational costs, enhances property value, and boosts investor confidence. Sekhri expressed confidence that an increasing number of garment factories in India would pursue LEED certification in the near future.

Meanwhile, Thakur observed that India currently has only 13 garment factories with LEED certification, compared to approximately 250 in Bangladesh. He emphasised the growing global focus on sustainability among reputed brands and stressed the urgency for Indian manufacturers to adopt such practices in order to remain competitive in the international market.

Surat, April 30, 2025: The Ministry of Heavy Industries has shocked Surat, India’s biggest hub for manmade fabric (MMF) by conspicuously excluding Surat from a high-level meeting organised on April 29, 2025) in New Delhi. The meeting was convened to streamline the implementation of the newly proposed Machinery and Electrical Equipment Safety (Omnibus Technical Regulation) Order, 2024.

“Every year, the textile industry of Surat witnesses new machinery installations of Rs8,000cr ($934.65m) out of the total Rs20,000cr ($2.33bn) worth of new textile machinery installed nationwide,” a leading textile businessman tells this report. “But still, none of the leading textile bodies of Surat were invited for the meet.” Not invited to this key meeting were representatives from the Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SGCCI), the oldest chamber of Gujarat, nor the Federation of Indian Art Silk Weaving Industry (FIASWI), nor the Federation of Gujarat Weavers Welfare Association (FOGWA).

“Surat is home to the manmade textile industry and has the lion’s share,” our industry source tells us. “Presence of Surat in such critical meetings is mandatory.”

Sources confirmed that the meeting saw participation from national-level associations such as FICCI, CII, BIS, TMMA, and several sector-specific machinery bodies. The gathering aimed to form a Technical Committee to oversee the rollout and enforcement of the OTR 2024, which will directly impact machinery and equipment safety standards across sectors, including textiles.

A report in The Blunt Times said former SGCCI president and present head of the Pandesara Weaving Society, Ashish Gujarat,i voiced strong disapproval: “It is outrageous that Surat — the largest consumer of textile machinery in the country — was left out of such a significant policy discussion. This is a blatant oversight and an insult to the entire Surat textile ecosystem.”
Gujarati added that earlier government assurances indicated that end-user input would be a cornerstone of all technical and safety regulation processes. However, the exclusion of Surat from the discussion contradicts that commitment and risks formulating policies detached from ground realities.

What are the fallouts of the absence of Surat from the important meeting? Well, textile stakeholders in Surat now fear that the absence of local representation may result in impractical or commercially harmful regulatory frameworks.” The SGCCI and other associations are reportedly preparing to formally protest this omission with the central government,” The Blunt Times report said.

Industry veterans say this isn’t the first time Surat has had to play catch-up with Delhi after being left out of policy dialogues, despite its critical role in India’s textile value chain. “We contribute massively to the national textile economy, yet we have to knock on doors post-facto to make our voices heard. This cycle must stop,” said a senior member of FOGWA.

While the Technical Committee begins its work on finalising the implementation framework for the OTR 2024 Order, Surat’s absence has triggered a fresh debate on the Centre’s consultative processes. “The textile powerhouse is demanding an urgent seat at the table — not just to protect its interests, but to ensure that national policies reflect the realities of India’s most active and advanced textile cluster” FOGWA president Ashok Jirawala said.

May 19, 2025: India’s decision to restrict imports of ready-made garments from Bangladesh through land ports is expected to create an additional ₹1,000-2,000 crore business opportunity for the domestic textile industry, industry experts said.
However, the move may cause short-term disruptions in the supply of certain branded garments, with potential price hikes of 2-3% for items such as T-shirts and denims in the winter season.

What has the Indian government announced?

In a late-night notification issued Saturday, the government said import of ready-made garments from Bangladesh will now be permitted only through Kolkata and Nhava Sheva sea ports, effectively barring such imports via the 11 existing land transit points in the Northeast.

The restrictions, however, exempt essential items such as fish, LPG, edible oil, and crushed stone, and do not apply to Bangladesh’s exports to Nepal and Bhutan transiting through India.

The curbs came over a month after India ended a nearly five-year arrangement that allowed trans-shipment of Bangladeshi export cargo to third countries through Indian airports and seaports.

How will this impact the domestic textile industry?

The new restrictions, effective immediately, mark a major shift in bilateral trade dynamics between the two countries.

The move is expected to benefit domestic manufacturers, especially MSMEs, which have struggled to compete with duty-free, subsidised apparel from Bangladesh, according to experts.

“We were importing garments worth ₹6,000 crore annually from Bangladesh. We can now expect imports worth ₹1,000-2,000 crore to be replaced with Indian manufacturing,” The Economic Times quoted Sanjay K Jain, chairman of the National Textile Committee at the Indian Chamber of Commerce, as saying.

What prompted India to take this step?

Industry voices see the decision as a countermeasure to Bangladesh’s port restrictions on Indian exports from the Northeast.
New Delhi had raised concerns with Dhaka over limited access to Bangladeshi land ports, but did not receive a favourable response, reported PTI, citing officials familiar with the matter.

How important is Bangladesh in the global garment trade?

Bangladesh is one of the world’s largest exporters of ready-made garments, with exports valued at USD 38 billion in 2023.
Of its USD 700 million RMG exports to India, 93% were routed via land ports.

In FY2024-25, Bangladesh exported apparel worth USD 677.5 million to India, a 13.8% rise over the previous year. The Petrapole land port alone accounted for USD 515.3 million, or 76% of the total.

“The decision is a timely step towards preventing the dumping of foreign-made garments and strengthening India's self-reliance in apparel production,” said Santosh Katariya, President, Clothing Manufacturers Association of India (CMAI).
“At the same time, we believe this policy must be complemented with continued support for capacity building and ease of doing business for Indian manufacturers," he added.

While the move has been welcomed by Indian exporters, it poses logistical and cost challenges for Bangladeshi garment manufacturers, especially small and medium-sized units that rely on land routes for quicker and cheaper deliveries.
"Forcing garments to be shipped via sea ports will increase transportation costs and potentially make Bangladeshi garments less competitive in the Indian market," Thakur said, adding sea transportation is slower than land transportation, leading to longer delivery times.

The Global Trade Research Initiative (GTRI) noted that Bangladeshi exporters enjoy a 10-15% price advantage due to duty-free Chinese fabric imports and export subsidies, a point of contention for Indian manufacturers.

AEPC Vice Chairman A Sakthivel hailed the government’s decision, calling it a timely and necessary intervention to level the playing field for Indian exporters.

“The domestic industry will benefit from this," Sakthivel said.

Mumbai, May 02, 2025 India’s major textile-producing states, Gujarat and Maharashtra, are experiencing a severe workforce shortage that is interfering with the region’s ability to produce fabrics and clothing.

The industries that require a lot of labour have been especially affected by the workforce reduction. The output of textile factories in Surat, Gujarat’s famous textile hub, has decreased by as much as 50 per cent. Nevertheless, despite a slower supply of textiles, limited retail demand might stop price increases.

Surat is well known for its manual labour-intensive weaving, processing, and clothing industries. The majority of the personnel are from Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, and they usually spend one to two months in their home villages in the summer.
Since their pay is output-based rather than permanent, these workers’ absences have a financial impact on them but are out of the factory owners’ control. Many depart to work in agriculture or help with harvesting, where they frequently receive greater seasonal pay.

According to Ashish Gujarati, the former president of the Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce & Industry (SGCCI), factories are forced to cut production by as much as 50 per cent due to a workforce shortage in the textile sector.

Approximately 50 per cent of the staff are thought to have taken time off to return to their home states. After the first rains, which should happen in the second half of June, workers are expected to return. He went on to say that the most acute labour shortages are occurring in the auto and power looms. Clothing and textile processing are also impacted. Similar manpower shortages are affecting industries other than textiles.

Production at textile factories has been hampered by a lack of labour, but it is doubtful that supply will abruptly decline or fabric prices will rise. Unless there is an unanticipated spike in demand for completed items like clothing, there are unmistakable indications of steady supply and stable prices. Additionally, wholesalers have accumulated enough inventory for the summer. More significantly, there is currently little to no demand for clothing and textiles, which makes price increases unfavourable.

Chennai, May 21, 2025: Tamil Nadu textile mills are hoping for a gradual market recovery and improved performance this fiscal year after nearly two years of declining demand and growing production costs.

According to Indian Texpreneurs Federation convenor Prabhu Dhamodharan, the spinning business experienced a very difficult period in the fiscal year 2023–2024 as a result of low yarn demand and high inventory levels throughout the value chain. Over the past nine months, yarn demand has steadily improved due to value chain inventory exhaustion and a 10 per cent decrease in installed spindles throughout India, which has somewhat restored supply-demand equilibrium.

There were no stocks, and the textile mills were able to sell their monthly output. According to him, some mills were currently using 70 per cent to 80 per cent of their capacity, while the larger mills were currently running at 95 per cent.

However, the price differential between domestic and foreign cotton as well as growing conversion costs, continues to put pressure on profits. According to him, there is still hope that steady demand will eventually result in an improvement in margins from this fiscal year.

In order to increase efficiency over the medium term, textile mills with financial means were also investing in automation and modernisation. According to him, the mills would be able to invest in modernisation if demand continued to rise.

About 19 million of Tamil Nadu’s 24 million spindles were in use, according to S.K. Sundararaman, chairman of the Southern India Mills’ Association. One-third of these were doing well since they used only renewable energy sources. For long-term survival, an additional six million spindles should boost manufacturing efficiency and competitiveness. He recommended that they consider pursuing value-added or synthetic yarns.

Due to free trade agreements, the textile industry has a lot of chances. To obtain sustainable, additional industry sources, the mills should concentrate on a number of areas, including fibres, modernisation, and value-added yarns.

Hyderabad, April 11, 2025: In order to attract investments in textile production and apparel manufacturing, the Government has released operational guidelines for the implementation of the A.P. Textile, Apparel and Garments Policy (4.0) 2024-29. These guidelines place a particular emphasis on value addition, employment creation, and environmental protection for the state of Andhra Pradesh.

According to G.O. Ms. No. 55, between 2014 and 2024, more than 848 units began production with a total investment of over Rs. 13,617 crore (US $ 1.58 billion), creating jobs for 1,05,225 people. However, since then, there has been little advancement in value-added textile activities like weaving, knitting, technical textiles, processing, and integrated units.

These markets have a lot of potential for creating jobs on a broad scale in addition to adding value. To guarantee the conversion of all yarn produced in the state into fabrics and stop value migration, it was believed that a targeted strategy was required, necessitating a set of policies that support important elements of the textile value chain. In light of this, the Government developed the aforementioned policy. It will remain in effect until 10th December 2029.

The Business Factors News Desk

New Delhi, May 21 2025. India’s food regulator on Tuesday drew attention to the increasing consumption of processed food, while highlighting that food-processing companies have the responsibility of ensuring that packaged food contains the right nutrients.

At the same time, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) issued a statement on Tuesday directing all states and Union Territories to intensify inspections and conduct special enforcement drives to curb the illegal use of non-permitted fruit ripening agents, as well as the colouring and coating of fruit with synthetic colours or non-permitted wax. The move is part of the regulator’s ongoing efforts to ensure safe food for consumers, a report by Akshara Srivastava in the Business Standard said.

“We have not defined ultra-processed food in India, and any food can be classified as healthy or unhealthy depending on the amount of consumption. It is a great social responsibility of the industry to ensure that you pack your food with micronutrients and use appropriate sources of protein and fats,” said G Kamala Vardhana Rao, chief executive officer at FSSAI, while speaking at the 16th edition of FICCI Foodworld India.

“I am thankful to the industry that it is focusing on that, along with responding promptly to guidelines on misleading advertisements,” he added.

Meanwhile, Hemant Malik, Chair of the FICCI food processing committee and executive director at ITC, said that among the broad consumer trends shaping the sector is health and wellness, especially products addressing challenges like protein deficiency and gut wellness.

Malik further expressed industry concerns about the labelling debate, advocating for serving-size-based front-of-pack nutrition information rather than per-100-gram measurements.

“The most consumption of packaged food is in small sizes,” he said, while cautioning against broadly categorising packaged food as “ultra-processed”, citing examples such as soy nuggets, which provide affordable protein despite being processed products.

At the event, Deloitte and FICCI together launched a report shedding light on the sector’s contribution, accounting for roughly 7.7 per cent of India’s total manufacturing gross value added.

According to the report titled Spurring Growth: Driving Innovation and Unlocking Opportunities in the Indian Food Processing Sector, the sector is valued at $160 billion and represents nearly 30% of the national food market.
